Resistance Test of Revited Joints

Today the Resistance Test of the riveted joints (Video 1) occurred. This test aims to analyze the tensile strength performance of the joints and whether they will fail when it reaches 35kN.

During the test we obtained a value of 42 kN for the riveted joint with the rivets made by the metallic mold process and 5 kN for the rivets manufactured by the green sand process.

It was observed that the rivets manufactured by the metal mold sheared in the same plane and at the same instant, as shown in Figure 1. Therefore, we can perceive a uniform composition of the material.

In riveting the joint with rivets manufactured in the green sand process, the heads of the same did not withstand compression during the forging step to secure them to the joint, thereby the plates were not completely joined, resulting in a small resistance.
